WHAT YOU LOVE – YOU EMPOWER
WHAT YOU FEAR – YOU EMPOWER
WHAT YOU INTENTIONALLY EMPOWER – YOU ATTRACT
If you’re focusing on self-awareness and business growth this year I have three ways that will help you design a life you want, not by chance but by choice. The choices you make.
This can be scary to do at first, but I encourage you to let your fear guide you. With practice and time, these exercises will become second nature and they will empower you to live exactly how you want.
Tank Fillers List (or write down) at-least three things that fill your cup. Tank fillers give you energy, inspire or motivate you, make you happy, or help you relax.
Tank Drainers List at-least one disempowering thing in your life or business, something you may be avoiding, something that might keep you up at night, or something you are making decisions based on trying to prevent from happening. This will be the specific fear you are focusing on for this week. Be intentional, what is up for you right now or what comes to mind when you think of yourself being held back.
Empowered IntentionI call this anchoring. You are going to anchor something that you love/have passion for or need in your life to make you feel like a better you every time you catch yourself in the cycle of fear.
Remember fear can show up as avoidance, denial, excuses, frustration or defence, lack of motivation or no feelings (numbing) etc… it can also feel very alive and energetic in your body.
Every time you notice yourself not doing the thing you wish you could be doing, or doing the thing but feeling terrified or not moving forward with an idea or task because you’re afraid you have to go to your list from step 1 and include 1 or all of those things and go do them.
Try not to overthink things. Take action and implement with intention one of the tank fillers you listed while connecting it to what you were feeling (fear, avoidance, denial, lack of motivation etc.)
After you’ve put into practice anchoring you will have resourced your nervous system and a resourced nervous system is an empowered nervous.
An empowered nervous system looks at fear not as something to avoid but as a healthy signal to proceed.
Here is an example. I had been wanting to put myself out there as somewhat of a specialist in a certain area of personal and professional development. When I think about how I wanted to do this my mind would fill with ideas and because of my fear of how it will be received by others, my story around my worth and my fear patterns all the thoughts would get mixed in with the ideas. Wondering am I enough? Who am I to call myself a specialist in anything? Do I have enough experience and education to claim I’m skilled enough to support this? What if this fails?
My fear would kick in and keep me stuck in the ideas which looked like I was taking my sweet time in getting around to taking any sort of action. I started to work on the practice of anchoring. My tank fillers are reading, hiking, horses and time alone. Every time I felt tank-draining thoughts I would grab my journal and find a way to implement nature, walking or horses.
This process took some time but it created a new pattern for me where I developed a trust in my ability to choose to get my needs met over a pattern. It built awareness around my thoughts and limiting beliefs. It started to heal my connection to valuing others’ opinions/education and experiences over my own.
My reflections poured out into my journal which is inspired by my tank filling resources and I started to develop an empowered nervous system. I now implement this technique frequently and it always serves to build resilience and actionability within me.
I hope this can serve some of you as it has served me. Let me know what you think and I would love to know how it goes for you or any curiosity that may arise.
