3 Ways to Help You Set More Mindful Goals

Do you set goals for yourself based on what fuels you and what you are passionate about, or do you set goals based on what you think you should be achieving based on what you see around you?

If you’re looking to be successful at achieving the goals you set for yourself, the key is to find the things that spark your passion and excitement. While it can be easy to set a goal, the challenging part is knowing what YOU truly want, in your heart, to achieve. The goals we set can often be influenced by others around us or by what we see daily from social media. We assume we want the things we have been told are worth having. As a result, we set goals based on what can be void of any passion.

Mindful goal setting is about setting goals that fuel you and are passionate about. So, how do you go about setting mindful goals? I will share three ways to help you mix mindfulness and goalsetting.

Start small

Mindfulness is about being present in the moment. Therefore, setting a mindful goal is not always about the big picture end goal but more about smaller achievable goals that keep you focused on the present moment. For example, focus on a goal that can be done each day, writing in a journal, meditation, waking up at a specific time, making your bed, reading ten pages, etc. Smaller goals help you see results, keep you focused and in the moment, and help you build to larger goals with a good foundation.

Enjoy the process

It’s essential to take the time to celebrate and enjoy your accomplishments before jumping to the next goal. No matter how big or small, honour yourself and savour all of your accomplishments; when you take time to celebrate yourself along the way, you are giving yourself a double benefit – the enjoyment of the process and enjoyment of the result.

Know your “why:

One of the best ways to set a mindful goal is to attach emotion to it. When there is emotion tied to it, you are more likely to achieve that goal. So when you sit down to create a goal, think about WHY it’s important to you. How will it change your life? WHY do you want it to change your life? The more specific you can be, the better. When you are emotionally invested and are passionate about the goal, you will have more motivation to work towards it.

How you feel about your goals and the process you go through to achieve them matters just as much as the goals themselves.

Even the smallest successful actions can positively boost your mindset and, over time, add up to significant changes. Focus on how to bring an approach of mindfulness and self-love to setting realistic, meaningful goals.
