If you’re a business owner, learning to reclaim your personal power is an important skill to develop and learn. It’s easy for women to aim to please and put their power to the side (or away altogether). But, unfortunately, it’s also common to not even know that’s what you’re doing.
We all have a unique understanding of our power and its meaning to us. We have never released it; we have had it taken, lost it, and given it away to family, partners, people in authority positions, bosses, strangers, our past stories & experiences, and our future doubts and worries.
To Reclaim your power, you first must be aware of where and how it’s gone.
Here is a 4-step process for reclamation!
Insight
Looking at what you know and what you don’t. Was knowing something a good thing, scary or got you in trouble? Clarity is the barrier you may run up against. You might hear yourself think or say, “I don’t know” Think about the clarity you need to move forward.
Taking action
When you run up against an action barrier, it’s hard to get motivated, and you feel stuck, lack motivation or use excuses to keep yourself out of the game. You might notice yourself saying or thinking, “I can’t.” Identify the action you need to take. Bite-size the action if you feel your defence system kicking in and giving you a reason not to act. Take smaller and more attainable steps.
Nourish
The barrier that will show up around nourishment will be not asking for or allowing support or letting yourself reach fulfillment. You will have a hard time letting the nourishment in and meeting your needs. The goal… Feel into your body and notice what comes to mind that gives you a sense of fulfillment, remind yourself you are safe, and you don’t have to be strong and protected all the time. Ask for some support and notice what happens.
Transformation & Integration
Transformation is where we have moved through the reclamation process to the point of change. It is now how we think, feel, believe, and view things differently than maybe we did before. The barrier that may arise is that you don’t let yourself complete. You walk yourself back into needing more knowledge, taking more actions, doing all the things you “need” to do, but then you do something to sabotage the success and transformation. Remind yourself of the areas of growth in your life. What was something you used to struggle with and now you don’t? Prove your case and show your nervous system you have had moments of integration and that you can do it again!
Understanding your power can be the key to developing your skills as a leader, mastering your mindset, and being more confident in your decisions. Reclaiming your power is about creating inner strength and confidence.
