As the calendar shifts to September and kids head back to school, it’s a time for everyone to get back into routines and hit the reset button.
September means revisiting your goals, figuring out what’s been working and adjusting the things that have not been serving you. It means planning for the upcoming year and working on hitting the goals you’ve set for yourself.
As the end of summer nears and we get ready to welcome a new season, it’s a great time to do a reset. But what happens if you lack motivation and feel lost in a funk?
It’s safe to say that feeling unmotivated is something most of us have experienced at one time or another. When you lack motivation, it can feel daunting and overwhelming to even think about tackling big tasks.
Once you’ve lost motivation, it can be hard to get it back when you’re in a negative mindset. Staying motivated all the time is not easy, and let’s face it, it’s also not possible. We lose motivation from time to time. It’s normal and okay if you get back on track sooner than later.
Here are a few ways to help get you back on track and motivated again!
Change your mindset:
When we view things more positively and constructively, we can change our mindset toward the situation at hand and, in turn, will motivate us to keep working. Trust me, I know it can be hard to break those habits, but when you catch yourself thinking negatively, ask yourself these questions:
- What is one thing that is good about this?
- What could the hidden lesson or opportunity be?
Focus on what you LOVE:
You are generally more motivated to do it when you enjoy (or love something). So when you have lost your motivation, check in with yourself and see if you’re doing something you love and want to be doing. If it’s a no, refocus and shift your attention to something that drives you.
Set a smaller goal:
If having big goals feels too overwhelming, set a small or even tiny goal. Setting a small goal when you’re unmotivated helps to take the pressure off but still gives you something to work at and be consistent with. If you’re standing still, the most important thing is to start moving and build momentum forward.
Grab motivation from others:
Surround yourself with more people who are enthusiastic, motivated and optimistic. You can grab motivation from your mentors, friends, family, clients, podcasts, books and blogs. There are so many amazing places and people who can help to motivate you.
Take a break:
Sometimes lack of motivation can be a sign that we need a break. You would be surprised what a day or a few extra hours of relaxing can do for you!
Taking time to change your growing business may seem intimidating and overwhelming. However, by clearing out the old and bringing in the new, you will set yourself up for a season full of new energy, more opportunity, and less stress.
If you feel like you’ve lost your motivation, know that it’s not impossible to get it back. You don’t even have to start with something big and overwhelming. We know that working away at small tasks can lead to accomplishing a big task.
As you start to slowly cross the small items off your to-do list, you’ll ignite that spark, and your motivation will be back!
